Martin started his professional career as a Civil Engineer working
for a large contractor in the UK and then took a step sideways
in to Building. He operated his own consultancy for a period
of 15 years, gaining experience in both design and contract
administration. He has qualifications in Civil and Structural
Engineering and Commercial Law. Since 1994 he has been a full
time academic working in the area of construction law, contract
law and dispute resolution. He is currently a Senior Lecturer
and the Course Leader for the M.Sc. in Construction Law and
Dispute Resolution at Leeds Metropolitan University. In this
post Martin is involved in a variety of research projects in
the fields of construction law and dispute resolution.
Martin is also actively involved with the Society of Construction
Law in organising their annual conference and other local events.
He is also a member of the CIOB's Legal Dispute Resolution panel
and has recently been involved in the re-assessment of a number
of adjudicators on behalf of the RICS.
